A lifetime of service. A future for our schools.
I'm John Robinson and I am running for West Lafayette school board. As a 20-year Air Force veteran, I believe in Service Before Self. I am a father and a fan of the West Lafayette public schools. A quality education is vitally important to success in today's world. I'm running to bring steady, accountable leadership to a school district I believe in.

Discipline in service. Dedication in the classroom.
I spent over two decades in the military before transitioning to education, where I now teach computer science at Purdue University. In both careers, I've learned the same lesson: people thrive when expectations are clear, systems are fair, and leaders show up prepared.
As a lecturer, I write exams and assignments and utilize the academic tools that keep grading fair and consistent. I work to help my students while they navigate real life challenges — including difficult conversations, like academic integrity. That work has taught me how to make tough calls, and to not shy away from the truth.
"The school board's mission isn't to run the classroom directly, it's to make sure good policy is in place and the educators have what they need get the job done."
I'm running for the WLCSC board because our district is facing real challenges in the years ahead — from state funding changes to the everyday pressures on our teachers and students. I want to bring a steady, service-minded voice to the table.

The issues I'll bring to the Board table
Teacher Support & Retention
West Lafayette competes for talent in a community full of highly educated families. I'll work to keep our compensation, working conditions, and classroom support strong enough to retain the teachers our students depend on.
Fiscal Stewardship
State property tax reform and the expansion of school vouchers are reshaping district budgets across Indiana. I'll bring a disciplined, detail-oriented approach to protecting our resources and planning responsibly for what's ahead.
Options for Graduates
When I graduated, I didn't go straight to college — I enlisted in the Air Force. That decision gave me discipline, purpose, and eventually a college education through the GI Bill. It was the right path for me, and it opened doors I never could have predicted. Not every student is ready for college at 18, and not every student needs to be. Our schools should celebrate the student headed to a four-year university just as much as the one headed to a trade apprenticeship, the military, or a technical program. Success doesn't have one path.
Trusted voices in our community
Randy Studt
“John Robinson is a steady and strategic leader, with a wealth of experience in the military and education professions. His vision is to continue the excellent WestSide tradition for all students based on his own children’s experiences here. WestSide would benefit greatly from John’s voice on the board.”
Becky Creech
“John Robinson is a thoughtful leader who will listen to all stakeholders. John has demonstrated that he truly is service-minded through his careers in the military and education. We are fortunate that he now wants to bring that same service to the WL school community. As the father of two WL graduates, John knows the value of a WL education and I appreciate his commitment to help provide that same great WL experience to our current and future students.”
